"In
1992 I was diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis and given
a prognosis of 3 to 5 years before I would need a life giving liver
transplant. After exploring many types of diets, I came upon a macrobiotic
program that addressed the low fat requirements that I needed in order
to even be able to eat and digest food given the PSC disease and the
gastro intestinal problems that go along with it. Patty's cooking
services came into our lives in 1995 as a Mother's Day gift from my
dear husband. She was only to be with us for a month but that quickly
became a tenure of 12 years cooking for us twice a week. In August
of 2007 I finally received a liver transplant and was blessed with
the gift of life from a very heroic family and their very dear loved
one. I can thank Patty for helping me to sustain my health well past
the 3 to 5 years of survival predicted by my doctors. Her kind demeanor,
caring soul, and culinary expertise combined are a powerful healing
force.
Through
the years, Patty became a trusted family member and close personal
friend. She saw me through thick and thin and was a constant spiritual
supporter all through years of illness and finally my transplant experience.
She adapted her cooking repertory as my medical needs grew and went
above and beyond the call of duty when it came to accommodating other
family members' individual tastes and culinary requests while still
providing me with soothing meals. I found Patty to be an excellent
teammate as we tackled different recipes and converted them into healthy
ones that I could eat and digest easily. Her nourishing and excellent
soups became my main stay when I was in end stage liver disease and
it was extremely difficult to consume any type of substantial nutrition.
Cooking
to heal and soothe illness is a rare combination to find in the culinary
world of gourmet cooks and fancy chefs but Patty has been blessed
to finally fill this void. Her insight into people and the healing
properties of food are rare and are to be treasured. I know that I
have a friend for life and one that will always keep my health and
happiness foremost in her thoughts and actions as a professional whole
food culinary chef and a friend."
